Essay submissions must directly relate to one or more topics from the Sustainability Policy Framework and address them through a planning perspective. Your essay will be evaluated by members of the Sustainable Communities Division who are not enrolled in university coursework or are not academic staff at an institution with student participation in the contest. They will evaluate essays on the basis of the relation between the essay theme and sustainable community planning, quality of writing (mechanics, grammar, spelling, sentence structure, citation style adherence, etc.), organization, clarity of ideas and their proper support using references or a thorough explanation of reasoning, and other qualities related to rhetoric or author voice. All submissions are expected to include references.
