Our Division organizing committee is tweaking our mission and objectives for our Division proposal, and this will include a more solid definition of “sustainable community planning”. It was proposed that we look to APA’s recent definition of “sustaining places” from last year’s Sustaining Places Task Force report; here it is (from page 4):
Planning for “sustaining places” is a dynamic, democratic process through which communities plan to meet the needs of current and future generations without compromising the ecosystems upon which they depend by balancing social, economic, and environmental resources, incorporating resilience and linking local actions to regional and global concerns.
To any folks who are planning on submitting a general proposal anyways: Consider submitting to SCP too. One lucky winner will be able to present as SCP’s division session in Chicago!
